Plovdiv (Old Town)

| Destinations

A city of layers

In Plovdiv, history is not behind a shop window.

It is under your feet.

A Roman theater appears between the old houses. Part of an ancient stadium lies beneath the modern pedestrian street. Above them are the colorful Renaissance houses, and just a few minutes further on, the bars, galleries and small spaces of Kapana begin.

What to see

The Ancient Theater
One of the most impressive legacies from Roman Philippopolis.

The Old Town
Cobblestone streets, Renaissance houses and views of the city.

The Ancient Stadium

Kapana
Small streets with restaurants, cafes, galleries and shops.

How to experience it

Start the morning in the Old Town.

Walk down to Dzumaya and the Main Street.

Then leave the map.

Sit down in Kapana for coffee, lunch or a glass of Bulgarian wine.

And before sunset, climb one of the hills.

Plovdiv is at its most beautiful when you leave a little time to just be in him.
